I created Discovering Detours as a place to share the places we’ve explored, the adventures we’ve found along the way, and all the gluten-free food finds worth talking about.
About two years ago, I began my journey into the gluten-free world after discovering that I have the MTHFR gene. Since then, I’ve learned how to navigate a different way of eating—and, thankfully, I’ve also discovered that gluten-free doesn’t have to mean giving up good food! I’ve spent years appreciating what makes food truly good, so one of my favorite parts of this journey has been finding the restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and hidden gems that prove gluten-free food can still be really delicious.
I’m also a self-proclaimed perfectionist who loves a good plan. My day job literally involves making sure marketing plans are in place, so naturally, I tend to bring that same mindset to our travels. 😉 I love knowing where we’re going, what we’re doing, and having at least a pretty good idea of what comes next.
But somewhere along the way, I’ve learned that the best travel memories don’t always come from following the plan. Sometimes they come from taking the unexpected turn, stopping at the roadside viewpoint you didn’t know existed, wandering a little longer, or simply seeing where the day takes you.
So Discovering Detours is about finding that sweet spot between having a plan and leaving room for the unexpected. It’s about embracing the detours, chasing adventure, enjoying the journey, and discovering that sometimes the moments you never planned for may become your favorites.
